heddle check --only density
Density Check
The density check fails a page that opens with a wall of text, or carries a paragraph over 80 words outside long articles. Without it, the first thing a visitor meets can be a 130-word block, and most of them leave before the second sentence. Fails a page that opens with a wall of text.
When Heddle is set up on your site, this check runs on every build alongside 15 others, so a page that fails it is fixed before a buyer or a search engine sees it.
Why it exists
Fails a page that opens with a wall of text. Came from a reader rather than a rule: 129- and 136-word paragraphs under no heading passed every other check, because the words were fine and only the shape was wrong. Reads the built HTML, because the shape is a property of the rendered page.
- No paragraph over PARAGRAPH words, except in authored articles.
- Nothing before the first heading over OPENING words in a single block.

Questions
What does the density check look for?
No paragraph over 80 words outside articles, and no 80-word block before the first heading.
Does the density check need an AI model?
No. It reads the built pages or the sources directly, so it runs offline and costs nothing per run.
How do I run it?
Build the site, then run node bin/heddle.mjs check <site> --only density from the Heddle repository.
