heddle check --only meta

Meta Check

The meta check reads every built page's title, description, canonical, share card, H1, breadcrumb and crawl path, and fails each one that's missing or wrong. Without it, results can show truncated titles, a share can render as a bare link, and pages nothing links to can wait weeks to be crawled. The search surface of every built page. Each rule here shipped wrong at least once on the site this came from.

When Heddle is set up on your site, this check runs on every build alongside 15 others, so a page that fails it is fixed before a buyer or a search engine sees it.

Why it exists

The search surface of every built page. Each rule here shipped wrong at least once on the site this came from. Nav labels as titles, 111 titles past 60 characters (mostly a brand suffix), 96 descriptions past 160, share cards pointing at images the export never wrote, and 41 pages that linked only to each other so no crawl from the homepage ever reached them.

Questions

What does the meta check look for?

Titles, descriptions, canonicals, share cards, H1s, breadcrumbs and crawl paths on the built pages.

Does the meta check need an AI model?

No. It reads the built pages or the sources directly, so it runs offline and costs nothing per run.

How do I run it?

Build the site, then run node bin/heddle.mjs check <site> --only meta from the Heddle repository.
