heddle check --only voice

Voice Check

The voice check fails public pages that describe the company in its own internal language, and pages with no declared reader. Without it, pages can describe your company in the words your team uses internally, which buyers don't search for or follow. Buyer-first voice, in code. No page talks about the company in the words it uses about itself.

When Heddle is set up on your site, this check runs on every build alongside 15 others, so a page that fails it is fixed before a buyer or a search engine sees it.

Why it exists

Buyer-first voice, in code. No page talks about the company in the words it uses about itself. voice.json lists those words (internalLanguage, each with what to say instead) and the spellings of the company's own name to avoid (nameAvoid). On the source site, a services page opened on the company's internal strategy ("one practice", "at the centre") and passed every check, because none asked whether the buyer would follow it.

When site.json maps pages to readers (pagePersonas), every page must have one, so nothing ships without someone deciding who it is for. The model's half of this, whether that reader would understand the page, is the buyer check.

Questions

What does the voice check look for?

Internal language and avoided name spellings on public pages; every page has a reader.

Does the voice check need an AI model?

No. It reads the built pages or the sources directly, so it runs offline and costs nothing per run.

How do I run it?

Build the site, then run node bin/heddle.mjs check <site> --only voice from the Heddle repository.
